Job Description

Job Title: LibertyWorks Design Engineering Leader

Working Pattern:  Hybrid/Onsite

Working location:  Indianapolis, IN

This engineer leads a cross-discipline engineering team to specify and design mechanical and electrical hardware needed for advanced R&T technology projects. The leader is accountable for all aspects of hardware design, analysis, and definition, and support fabrication and test to deliver LibertyWorks' projects. In this role, the team leader ensures the component design meets project requirements from concept through demonstration test.

What you will be doing:

Here you’ll have opportunities to work on the following:

  • Lead a team design and analysis engineers to deliver a compliant sub-system level solution to meet safety, technical, quality and delivery requirements.
  • Deliver new component designs and design changes within the Design Technical Approval (DTA) Process, which includes (but is not limited to) creating design concepts, optimizing concepts to a final definition, preparing technical presentations and documents, supporting creation of drawings, delivering hardware for validation, and release of hardware to the field
  • Create and document functional and physical interfaces with other component engineers.
  • Develop hardware bill of material, and collaborate across teams to integrate with the project-level product structure and configuration.
  • Engage with supply chain and manufacturing engineering to ensure designs are producible and available to meet program schedule objectives.
  • Provide limits for engine and rig testing and supporting testing including assessment of test results and tested hardware.
  • Ensure project risks (technical, cost, supply chain and timescale) are identified, managed (including integration of risk activities in the project plan) and escalated in accordance with the risk management plan.
  • Develop technical presentations and associated technical reports in the delivery of solutions.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 5+ years’ experience, OR in mechanical, electrical or systems design, OR
  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with with 3+ years’ experience OR
  • JD/PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • To be considered for this role, you must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a high-level security clearance.

Preferred:

  • Exceptional people and communication skills
  • Familiarity using computer aided design tools such as NX
  • Basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensions and Tolerances (GD&T), and the creation of limit stacks.
  • Familiarity with generic design processes and design methods
  • Some experience using finite element analysis tools (such as ANSYS Classic or Workbench)
  • Programming skills such as Visual Basic, Matlab, Python, PERL, C++
  • Understanding of engine assembly and testing
